One of Guilford's most distinctive and beloved commercial properties, 20 Church Street is a beautifully adapted Quonset hut originally built in 1946. The structure first served as a warehouse for the Griswold Department Store and later for the Jeffrey Norton Publishing Company. Owner Doug Anderson undertook a creative adaptive reuse of the building, retrofitting the interior with structural steel and constructing a new mezzanine level while cladding the iconic arched shell with an eye-catching metal strip roof. The project earned a Guilford Preservation Alliance Award for its imaginative transformation of a post-war industrial structure into vibrant retail and café space. Located just steps north of the Historic Guilford Green, the property continues to serve as a gathering place for the community.
